Actor Beatty Wins Dick Tracy IP Fight With Tribune

Law360, New York (March 25, 2011, 7:42 PM EDT) -- “Dick Tracy” star and director Warren Beatty prevailed Thursday in a contract dispute in California against Tribune Media Services Inc. over who owns intellectual property rights to the iconic, yellow-clad police detective.

Judge Dean D. Pregerson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California granted summary judgment in Beatty's favor, saying Tribune could not reclaim the rights to the character because Beatty met his obligations under a 1985 agreement.
