Fla. Marketing Director Cops To $100M Medicare Fraud

Law360, New York (April 8, 2011, 2:05 PM EDT) -- The marketing director of Miami-based American Therapeutic Corp. pled guilty on Thursday to paying kickbacks to Medicare beneficiaries as part of a scheme to submit more than $100 million in bogus claims for mental health services.

Margarita Acevedo entered her plea in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, who asked the judge in charge of the case to reduce her sentence by three levels since she had accepted responsibility for the fraud.
