4th Circ. Reverses IIF Whistleblower's Bill For Fees

Law360 (April 19, 2011, 10:35 PM EDT) -- The Fourth Circuit ruled Tuesday that an employee-turned-whistleblower at defense contractor IIF Data Solutions will not have to pay more than $500,000 in IIF attorneys' fees for filing a losing qui tam suit against the company.

IIF's jury win in the $140 million False Claims Act suit will stand, however, the three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit ruled.  Barring an unlikely appeal, the decision is the final word in the nearly five-year-old case, in which IIF's former director of contracts Thomas Ubl claimed the company over-billed...
