Judge Won't Approve Samsung's $32M Tube Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (April 20, 2011, 7:03 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday refused to greenlight a $32 million criminal fine that Samsung SDI Co. Ltd agreed to pay to resolve a case alleging a global conspiracy to fix prices on color display tubes used in computer monitors.

The South Korean technology company, which reached the accord with prosecutors in March, was set to plead guilty on Tuesday to participating in the international cartel for nearly a decade as long as U.S. District Judge William Alsup gave the green light to the deal...
