Par Pharmaceutical Settles Medicaid Suits For $154M

Law360 (April 27, 2011, 10:43 PM EDT) -- Par Pharmaceutical Companies Inc. said Wednesday that it will pay $154 million to settle allegations brought by state attorneys general and a whistleblower pharmacy in Texas, Florida and other states that it inflated its drug prices for Medicaid.

The settlement would resolve claims brought under state and federal law by whistleblower Ven-A-Care of the Florida Keys Inc. on behalf of the U.S., Texas and Florida in addition to suits launched by attorneys general of Alaska, South Carolina and Kentucky.

The settlement is the latest victory for state attorneys general, which have actively pursued drug companies that overcharge the states' Medicaid agencies...
