Mo. Fails To Block Levee Detonation

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 1:22 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Friday rejected Missouri's bid to block a levee detonation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that would flood 130,000 acres along the Mississippi River in that state but protect a nearby Illinois town.

The private and public properties in Missouri make up the Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway, which the Corps could soon activate if river water by the town of Cairo, Ill., reaches 61 feet. The Corps has sent a barge filled with explosives to the levee at Birds Point, Mo.,...
