Chevron Nears Iraqi Kickback Settlement: Report

Law360 (May 8, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. may be inching closer to a settlement that will likely see the oil company shelling out a fine without admitting any wrongdoing for illegal kickbacks allegedly paid to the government of Iraq in order to secure lucrative oil deals.

Chevron Corp. is reportedly in the final stages of negotiating the deal, which will allow the company to avoid criminal charges for oil purchases made as part of the United Nations’ Oil-for-Food program, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter....
