Ex-NY Lawmaker Seeks Probation In Corruption Case

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 4:24 PM EDT) -- Former New York lawmaker Vincent L. Leibell III sought a sentence of community service and probation in federal court on Thursday after pleading guilty to extorting kickbacks from attorneys in December.

In court filing with U.S. District Judge Warren W. Eginton, Leibell's attorney David L. Lewis of Lewis & Fiore said that the 18- to 24-month prison term outlined in federal sentencing guidelines was only advisory and that the federal government's sentencing recommendation used overblown rhetoric to describe his clients criminal acts.
