Disney Sues Dish Over Free Access To Movies On Starz

Law360, New York (May 3, 2011, 3:15 PM EDT) -- The Walt Disney Co. sued Dish Network LLC in New York on Monday, claiming the satellite television provider has violated an agreement and copyrights on popular movies by giving subscribers free access to the Starz premium television service.

Disney, joined in the suit by Buena Vista Pay Television Inc., alleges that its January 2010 agreement with Starz, giving the television service limited rights to show certain Disney movies, includes a provision that requires Starz to operate as a premium, or pay, television service, like HBO, Cinemax...
