Yaz Consumers Fail To Win Class Cert. In MDL Case

Law360, New York (May 5, 2011, 7:26 PM EDT) -- The Illinois federal judge overseeing a multidistrict litigation over Bayer Corp. birth control pill Yaz on Wednesday refused to certify a nationwide class of individuals allegedly harmed by the contraceptive.

Louisiana resident Cindy Plaisance pursued the proposed class action after being hospitalized for deep vein thrombosis, a type of blood clot, in her left leg. Plaisance blamed Yaz for the injury and claimed Bayer concealed its knowledge of the birth control pill's defects from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, doctors, hospitals, pharmacists and the public....
