No Proof Oreck Vacuum Kills 99% Of Germs, Suit Says

Law360, New York (May 12, 2011, 2:27 PM EDT) -- A consumer slapped Oreck Corp. with a class action in Illinois federal court Tuesday, claiming the company falsely advertised that its Halo vacuum could substantially reduce the risk of flu and eliminate virtually all common germs and allergens.

Oreck settled similar allegations brought by the Federal Trade Commission in April, agreeing to pay a $750,000 fine and stop claiming that its Halo vacuum and ProShield Plus air purifier were scientifically proven to reduce the risk of the common cold, asthma, allergies and other ailments caused by...
