NY Nonprofit Incurs NLRB Wrath Over Facebook Firing

Law360, New York (May 18, 2011, 8:49 PM EDT) -- A New York nonprofit violated labor law when it fired five employees who complained about working conditions on Facebook, a National Labor Relations Board office said Wednesday, marking the agency's latest effort to address social media in the workplace.

Hispanics United of Buffalo Inc.'s decision to lay off employees who criticized workload and staffing conditions on the social networking site constituted unfair labor practices, according to a complaint filed May 9 by NLRB Buffalo Regional Director Rhonda Ley.
