American Reveals DOJ Probe Of Airline Ticket Sales

Law360, New York (May 20, 2011, 2:14 PM EDT) -- American Airlines Inc. revealed Friday that the U.S. Department of Justice was looking into possible anti-competitive conduct by so-called global distribution systems that act as intermediaries between air carriers and travel agencies.

In a statement, American said it had received a civil investigative demand from the Antitrust Division of the DOJ, requesting the airline provide data relevant to its probe. Global distribution systems process a substantial portion of American’s ticket sales, the company said Friday.
