White House Won't Back Alternate Jet Engine Program

Law360, New York (May 25, 2011, 4:07 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Tuesday threatened to veto the next fiscal year’s defense spending bill over a provision that supports efforts by General Electric Co. and Rolls-Royce PLC to build an alternate engine for the military’s F-35 fighter jets.

The U.S. Department of Defense in March killed federal funding for GE and Rolls-Royce to construct an alternative to the Pratt & Whitney-made primary engine for the F-35 joint strike fighters, calling the program a waste of taxpayer dollars.
