Locke Vows To Tackle US-China Trade Paradigm

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 4:53 PM EDT) -- Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said Thursday that the U.S. needed to hold China accountable on its pledges to step up transparency and intellectual property rights protections in order to shift the paradigm of "China making and United States taking."

At a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on his nomination to become the next ambassador to China, Locke vowed to push that country to implement its commitments in those areas. He noted the commercial relationship between the two nations stood at a crossroads.
