Madonna Escapes Deposition In Material Girl Case

Law360, New York (June 6, 2011, 12:28 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge refused Thursday to order Madonna to show up for a deposition in a suit accusing her Material Girl Brand LLC clothing line of infringing another apparel company's trademark for the singer's famed nickname.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Chooljian denied L.A. Triumph Inc.'s bid to compel the singer to go to Los Angeles for a deposition, ruling that because Madonna has already been dismissed from the action and lives in New York, she can't be forced to travel cross-country under federal subpoena rules....
