Judge Nixes 2 Race Claims By Ex-Jones Day Secretary

Law360, Los Angeles (June 6, 2011, 9:48 PM EDT) -- A California state judge on Monday granted Jones Day’s motion for summary judgment on two racial discrimination claims brought by a former legal secretary who accused the law firm of disparate treatment of African-Americans.

Judge Mary Ann Murphy threw out plaintiff Jaki Nelson’s claims of racial harassment and failure to investigate racial harassment in violation of a California employment law, along with a claim for negligent infliction of emotional distress. Nelson had not opposed Jones Day’s motion for summary judgment on the claims.
