HP Sues Oracle Over Software Lockout

Law360, New York (June 16, 2011, 3:41 PM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. sued Oracle Corp. in California state court on Wednesday, alleging the technology giant has used anti-competitive tactics in the wake of a lawsuit over former HP CEO Mark Hurd's move to Oracle.

HP claims that Oracle’s abrupt announcement in March that new versions of its software would not run on HP’s Itanium-based servers violated binding agreements between the two companies and was designed to force customers to shift from HP server hardware to Oracle’s own server hardware.
