BitTorrent, Kontiki Hit With Data-Sharing Patent Suit

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 6:01 PM EDT) -- A patent holder sued file-sharing companies BitTorrent Inc. and Kontiki Inc. in California on Tuesday, alleging they infringed a patent covering software that helps transmit large amounts of data.

Tranz-Send Broadcasting Network Inc. claims that San Francisco-based BitTorrent and Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Kontiki — both of which manage peer-to-peer file-sharing networks that allow users to upload and download large amounts of data — have infringed U.S. Patent Number 7,301,944.
