UnitedHealth Sues DOD Over $24B Healthcare Contract

Law360, New York (June 21, 2011, 8:39 PM EDT) -- UnitedHealth Group Inc. said Tuesday it had sued the U.S. Department of Defense in federal claims court over a $23.5 billion military contract awarded to Humana Inc. to provide health insurance to troops and veterans in the South.

The suit comes a week after UnitedHealth lost its protest against the award for the military's Tricare South Region when the U.S. Government Accountability Office on June 15 upheld the DOD's decision to give the contract to Humana Military Healthcare Services.
