FTC Clears Intel To Bid On Nortel Patents

Law360, New York (June 24, 2011, 1:59 PM EDT) -- U.S. antitrust regulators on Friday cleared Intel Corp. to compete for bankrupt Nortel Networks Corp.'s highly sought-after patent portfolio, allowing the chipmaker to join Apple Inc., Google Inc. and others in an auction set for Monday.

The Federal Trade Commission granted Intel early termination of the agency's antitrust review, allowing Intel to bid on Nortel's 6,000 patents and patent applications for wireless, data networking and semiconductor technology, which will hit the auction block in New York on Monday.
