Apple, Microsoft, Others Win Nortel Patents For $4.5B

Law360, New York (July 1, 2011, 12:28 PM EDT) -- Bankrupt Nortel Networks Corp. said late Thursday that a group of tech giants, including Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Research in Motion Ltd., made the winning bid for its massive patent portfolio with a $4.5 billion cash offer.

Nortel’s coveted portfolio includes more than 6,000 U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications for wireless, wireless 4G, data networking, optical, Internet search, semiconductor and social networking technology.
