Facing FTC Inquiry, Google Loads Up On Lobbyists

Law360, New York (July 1, 2011, 5:57 PM EDT) -- Google Inc. is hiring 12 new lobbying firms, the company said Friday, a week after the search giant revealed that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission had initiated a formal review of its business.

The news that Google is signing up a dozen new lobbyists — including three of the top-20 grossing firms, according the Center of Responsive Politics — may signal that the search giant is treating the FTC’s investigation as a serious threat, and has decided to confront the government with a head-on charm offensive....
