Copyright Holders Can Keep Character Rights: 8th Circ.

Law360, Los Angeles (July 5, 2011, 6:41 PM EDT) -- The Eighth Circuit on Tuesday affirmed a district court’s permanent injunction barring movie image licensors from selling altered versions of public domain images related to "Gone With the Wind," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Tom and Jerry," ruling that copyright holders deserve protection of their characters even after images depicting them have entered the public domain.
