Idaho Union Contracting Law Temporarily Blocked

Law360, New York (July 5, 2011, 6:43 PM EDT) -- An Idaho federal judge ruled Friday that two construction labor groups would likely succeed in challenging a new state law that prevents unions from deducting members' wages to subsidize pay for contractor workers, and postponed the law from taking effect.

U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill granted the plaintiffs' bid for a preliminary injunction, finding merit in their argument that the Idaho statute was preempted by federal labor law, and that implementing the measure could harm construction industry unions while delaying it would benefit the public....
