Telecom Contractor Sues Court Over Background Check

Law360, New York (July 8, 2011, 1:44 PM EDT) -- A Kentucky telecommunications company on Thursday filed suit alleging the clerk's office of a Chicago federal court canceled two service contracts totaling nearly $200,000 because a background check on the company's president incorrectly turned up a felony drug conviction.

Tektel Inc. told the U.S. Court of Federal Claims that while its president was arrested on a felony drug charge, he was only convicted of a misdemeanor. Because of that, the Northern District of Illinois chose to cancel the contract on discretionary, not mandatory, grounds and should...
