Walgreen To Pay $3M Over Mass. Overbilling Claims

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 1:23 PM EDT) -- Walgreen Co. will pay $2.8 million to Massachusetts to settle claims that it overcharged workers compensation insurance for prescriptions filled by government workers, the state's attorney general announced Thursday.

The pharmacy chain allegedly overcharged state agencies and municipal governments by $1.4 million dating back 2002, the state said. The company will pay back that amount to the 78 cities, towns and state agencies affected by the overcharges, and will also pay another $1.4 million directly to the state.
