DOE Contractor Rigged $4.8M Subcontract, Suit Claims

Law360, New York (July 18, 2011, 7:10 PM EDT) -- Washington Closure Hanford LLC, the contractor in charge of the U.S. Department of Energy's largest nuclear cleanup effort, was accused Friday in Washington state of rigging a $4.8 million trucking subcontract, allegedly giving the work to a phony small business.

The plaintiffs, Salina Savage and her company Savage Logistics LLC, applied in 2009 for the subcontract, which was awarded to Phoenix Enterprises Northwest. Savage alleges that Phoenix was set up as a front company so that Washington Closure could pass the work to its preferred subcontractor,...
