Kohl Calls On Regulators To Bar AT&T, T-Mobile Merger

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 7:23 PM EDT) -- Sen. Herb Kohl, who heads the U.S. Senate's antitrust and consumer rights panel, asked federal regulators Wednesday to block AT&T Inc.'s planned $39 billion takeover of T-Mobile USA Inc., saying the merger would harm consumers and stifle competition in the cellphone market.

In a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission, the Wisconsin Democrat said the potential merger would further condense a wireless industry that was already perilously consolidated.
