Hip-Hop Label Loses Bid To Settle With Warner

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 5:44 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Thursday rejected a motion by hip-hop label DM Records Inc. to schedule a conference to settle a copyright suit against Warner Music Group Corp. over allegedly unauthorized uses of DM songs based on an expired contract.

DM and a Warner Music unit signed a distribution agreement in 1999 that expired in 2009, but the music giant continued distributing and selling DM's music through digital downloads and ring tones without authorization, and has not provided any resulting revenue to the hip-hop label,...
