South African Airways Settles Cargo Cartel MDL For $3M

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 10:57 PM EDT) -- South African Airways on Thursday agreed to a $3.3 million settlement in mulitdistrict litigation in New York over a worldwide air cargo cartel, in which a slew of airlines are accused of plotting to fix the rates for air cargo service to and from the U.S.

The settlement amount represents 3.5 percent of SAA's sales of shipping services to and from the U.S. between 2000 and 2006. The airline will also pay $150,000 toward the cost of notice and claims administration throughout the MDL period, which...
