Lodsys Targets 'Angry Birds' Co., Others In Licensing Row

Law360, Los Angeles (July 22, 2011, 8:45 PM EDT) -- The maker of the iPhone and Android game "Angry Birds" was one of several mobile app developers sued Thursday in Texas federal court by Lodsys LLC for allegedly violating its data patents, escalating its licensing spat with Apple Inc. over the third-party use of its technology.

Rovio Mobile Ltd., headquartered in Finland, is one of five game makers added to Lodsys' May lawsuit that accuses the mobile app developers of violating two patents that cover a technology which allows users to make in-game purchases through the application.

The amended complaint now targets 11 developers including Electronic Arts Inc., Square Enix Ltd.,...
