5th Defendant Denies Bus Contract Kickback Scheme

Law360, New York (August 4, 2011, 6:17 PM EDT) -- An Illinois businessman became the fifth and final defendant Thursday to deny government charges that he took part in an alleged scheme in which North Chicago school board members traded kickbacks from bus company owners for transportation contracts worth $21 million.

Barrett White, 52, pled not guilty to six counts of wire fraud and nine counts of bribery in Illinois federal court, denying charges that carry maximum penalties of 20 and 10 years in prison, respectively. He also agreed to be released on a $4,500 bond...
