Acer Settles Class Action Over Windows OS On Laptops

Law360, New York (August 9, 2011, 6:31 PM EDT) -- California-based computer manufacturer Acer America Corp. on Monday reached a preliminary settlement in a proposed class action accusing it of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty for intentionally misleading customers about the presence of a genuine Microsoft Windows operating system on its laptops.

The parties will finalize the agreement and file supporting documents by Aug. 22, and will ask the court to approve the class action settlement at a hearing Sept. 12, according to a notice filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District...
