Guarantee Trust Hit With Suit Over Soured Marketing Deal

Law360, New York (August 11, 2011, 4:04 PM EDT) -- Insurance Benefit Group Inc. on Wednesday sued Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Co. in Illinois state court, saying that the insurance company unilaterally canceled a marketing agreement to avoid paying commissions to IBG's sales agents.

IBG's complaint, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, alleges that GTL threatened to withhold commissions, a move that would have bankrupted IBG, in order to force changes to the marketing agreement and pressure an IBG employee to do work for the insurance company, and then canceled the agreement anyway.
