Judge Scrubs Woman's Suit Over 'The Help' Likeness

Law360, New York (August 16, 2011, 2:49 PM EDT) -- A Mississippi judge on Tuesday threw out a woman's lawsuit accusing Kathryn Stockett, author of “The Help,” of misappropriating her likeness for one of the maid characters in the best-selling novel.

In a bench ruling, Judge Tomie Green granted Stockett's motion for summary judgment, finding that Ablene Cooper's suit was barred by the one-year statute of limitations, the author's attorney, Fred L. Banks Jr. of Phelps Dunbar LLP, confirmed.
