TV Chef Bastianich Made Employee A 'Slave': $5M Suit

Law360, New York (August 19, 2011, 3:00 PM EDT) -- An Italian woman sued celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich on Wednesday in New York, seeking $5 million from the restaurateur for allegedly forcing her to work as a “golden slave” and caregiver for an elderly family friend.

Maria Farina claims that Bastianich lured her from Venice, Italy, with false promises of an executive chef position but instead forced her into indentured servitude caring for the elderly wife of the chef's late handyman — all without a dime in compensation.
