Whole Foods Sued For Collecting Customer ZIP Code Info

Law360, New York (August 19, 2011, 8:58 PM EDT) -- Whole Foods Market California Inc. was hit with a putative class action Thursday in California court alleging the natural foods grocery chain violated state law by requesting ZIP codes from customers paying with credit cards.

Named plaintiff Donna Motta accuses Whole Foods of using the ZIP codes, along with additional information from the credit cards, to obtain home addresses of customers with the help of third-party vendors.

Whole Foods never tells customers that they are not required to give their ZIP codes, according to the complaint....
