New York Post Beats $20M Libel Suit

Law360, New York (August 24, 2011, 9:27 PM EDT) -- A New York judge last week threw out a $20 million libel suit against the New York Post and an opinion writer who suggested that an imam might be turning prison inmates toward terrorism.

Judge Saliann Scarpulla said in an Aug. 17 ruling that the article, published in September 2010 under the title “Converts to Terror,” was legally protected opinion. Her ruling ends a suit brought by Melody Rashada, an imam who also works for the New York prison system.
