Tribune Settles Labor Dispute With Paper Hawkers

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 6:38 PM EDT) -- Tribune Co. reached a $325,000 preliminary settlement on Wednesday with a putative class of free daily newspaper promoters who sued the bankrupt media holdings company for allegedly misclassifying them as independent contractors.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin J. Carey signed off on the settlement between Tribune and a group of promoters who handed out copies of the amNewYork newspaper to passersby and first filed the putative class action in August 2007 in New York state court.
