Panasonic Ducks Samsung Antitrust Suit Over Patent Deal

Law360, San Diego (August 25, 2011, 9:22 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday dismissed Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s suit accusing Panasonic Corp. of restraining trade by using a patent licensing deal to control the availability and pricing of secure digital memory cards used in digital cameras and cellphones.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White granted a motion by Panasonic and SD-3C LLC to throw out Samsung’s case alleging federal antitrust violations, patent misuse and California unfair competition claims, but allowed the plaintiff a chance to amend its complaint by Sept. 16.
