Mysterious Bidder Snaps Up Commerce One Patents For $15.5M

Law360, New York (December 7, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Commerce One, a bankrupt California software company with patent rights to a number of key technical protocols for online commerce, sold its intellectual property portfolio for $15.5 million to a mysterious bidder at Monday’s closely watched auction at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco.

An unknown company called JGR Acquisition Inc. won the bidding war against seven other bidders, including two IP ventures with ties to former Microsoft Corp. chief technology officer Nathan Myhrvold.
