Comcast-NBC Merger Gets Judge's OK, With Conditions

Law360, New York (September 1, 2011, 6:39 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in Washington on Thursday approved the U.S. government’s antitrust settlement clearing Comcast Corp.’s $37 billion acquisition of NBC Universal Inc. from General Electric Co., but imposed conditions that will give him additional oversight of the deal for two years.

While approving the settlement, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon expressed concern that the terms of the deal did not do enough to protect the public interest, particularly with regard to its arbitration mechanism for online video distributors that dispute Comcast’s program-licensing activities....
