DOD Ranks Worst In Agency Sole-Source Contracting Study

Law360, New York (September 2, 2011, 6:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense has a worse record than any other federal agency in handing out noncompeted contracts, as it holds competitions for about 60 percent of its contracts by total dollar value, according to a Friday report by the Center for Public Integrity.

Friday's report wraps up a CPI investigation titled the "Windfalls of War." In the first report, the nonprofit investigative group said that the Pentagon had tripled the amount it spent on noncompeted contracts since 2001, reaching $140 billion in sole-source awards...
