Par, Others Targeted In Medicaid Fraud Suit

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 11:00 PM EDT) -- Par Pharmaceutical Cos. Inc. and others illegally conspired with pharmacies to boost Medicaid reimbursements by switching higher-priced drugs for cheaper generics, according to a complaint filed by the U.S. and unsealed Tuesday in Illinois federal court.

The complaint, filed in July, claims that Par and Mylan Inc. divisions Alphapharm Pty Ltd. and Genpharm ULC paid millions to pharmacies to get them to substitute their higher-priced drugs for popular generic medications, which are subject to price controls set by federal and state governments.
