Borders E-Book Partner Balks At Proposed IP Sale

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 7:55 PM EDT) -- The proposed sale of bankrupt bookseller Borders Group Inc.'s intellectual property assets sparked several objections Tuesday in New York bankruptcy court, including one from Kobo Inc., which makes e-readers used by Borders' customers.

Under their partnership agreement, Kobo says, it had licensed its trademarks and other intellectual property to Borders and also allowed the bookstore chain to use some of the personally identifiable information belonging to Kobo's customers. Borders, in turn, had to promote Kobo's e-readers and services in stores and online, the objection says....
