Energy Trader Sues HarperCollins, Author For Defamation

By Lisa Uhlman (September 9, 2011, 4:08 PM EDT) -- An energy trader sued HarperCollins Publishers LLC and author Leah McGrath Goodman for defamation in Texas state court on Wednesday, alleging Goodman's book "The Asylum: The Renegades Who Hijacked the World's Oil Market" took his quotes out of context.

William O. Perkins III, an energy trader affiliated with Centaurus Energy LP, alleges Goodman's book and an article published ahead of it misquoted him and sprinkled his quotes in with out-of-context passages describing illegal behavior in the energy trading environment on the New York Mercantile Exchange, resulting in the appearance that he engaged in the illegal conduct.
