Sears Settles Defective Door Opener Class Action

Law360, New York (September 12, 2011, 4:33 PM EDT) -- Sears Roebuck and Co. on Thursday resolved a putative consumer class action in New Jersey federal court accusing the retailer of deliberately selling faulty garage door openers.

U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares signed an order dismissing the case with prejudice and without costs against any party, after the parties' stipulation that they had “amicably resolved” all of the claims.

Additional details of the confidential settlement were not disclosed, and representatives for the parties did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday.
