Waste Co. Exec Gets 4 Years For Superfund Fraud

Law360, New York (September 12, 2011, 9:39 PM EDT) -- A former waste company executive was sentenced Monday to 50 months in prison for his participation in a multimillion-dollar kickback scheme involving contracts for a New Jersey Superfund site and impeding a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission proceeding.

In addition to the prison sentence, prosecutors said U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton hit Robert Griffiths, formerly of Bennett Environmental Inc., with a $15,000 criminal fine and ordered him to pay $4.6 million in restitution, jointly and severally with his co-conspirators to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency....
