Samsung Faces Class Action Over Blu-Ray Laptop Fees

Law360, Chicago (September 14, 2011, 12:19 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electro-Mechanics America Inc. was hit with a putative class action Tuesday in California state court alleging the company forces purchasers of its notebook computers to pay an additional upgrade fee to view Blu-ray discs, a function purportedly included with the products.

Lead plaintiff Ivan Guardia alleges that Samsung has deceptively advertised, marketed, represented and sold its Samsung R580-JBB2 notebook computers with the claim that they come with an optical drive feature that allows users to watch Blu-ray movies in high definition.
